I met up with ustaz after Teraweeh prayers and had a chat with him. He was concerned after I went for my surgery.
Setbacks allows us to strengthen our faith. If you think this is the worse that can happen to you, there are others who had it worse. Our common friend met with an accident and sustained many broken bones. Hence, it is always important to show gratitude, even in the toughest times.
If you are not contented with what you have now, always look down to the people who are less well-off. In Indonesia, poverty is everywhere. Some don't have money for the next meal. Some are wearing old tattered clothes. But they lead happy lives. Now you see the rich and famous with obscene amounts of money, but they have a thousand and one problems. They worry if they lose money. For us, we are still happy and contented with the rezeki that Allah has blessed us.
We are fortunate to enjoy modern technology. However, the poor do not have access to these. We must be grateful that Allah has blessed us with such comfort. While you look to the poor to stay grounded, you should look up to the righteous scholars and match their levels of piety. Look up to the asatizah, the huffaz of the Quran and masyaikh.
